WHAT IS A YEAST INFECTION?
Yeast infections of the vagina occur when there is an overgrowth of the fungus Candida in the vagina. Although yeast infections are only half as common as BV, they are the most well-known.

Symptoms commonly include:
  • Itching
  • Burning, especially during urination
  • White, thick, lumpy discharge that resembles cottage cheese
  • Some women experience vaginal inflammation or redness
Unlike BV, the discharge associated with a yeast infection generally does not smell and has a normal vaginal pH, of 4.5 or below. For more on the difference between vaginal yeast infections and BV, see our reference chart.

Yeast infections can be treated with over-the-counter vaginal antifungal products or a prescription from your physician. At vH essentials, we provide a Rapid Screening Test, to help you determine whether you are dealing with a yeast infection, or some other type of vaginitis. If you've never experienced vaginal yeast infection symptoms before, consult your physician.
